We have a little taste of some better races to come with an Adelaide Cup lead up at Morphettville.
A horse who probably won't get to that level but is bred to and runs for the Adelaide Cup winning trainer is Dark Alley in Race 4.
Off a break he got home nicely at Warrnambool and then loved the added ground at Geelong.
You have to think he will enjoy the mile and a quarter even more now. Even in this grade of race he won't be out of place.
Like backing younger horses in winning form when they meet a bunch of older ones who are out of it.
The feature is the Birthday Cup and it is a competitive race over the same journey.
If Rising Red is going to find his old form again then this is the race to do it.
Coming off a long time away he's now had three runs back and they've been in tough Saturday company.
He's fitted up for this to peak and looking at the ratings, he's got 17 points (or 8.5kg) on the rivals but only has to give them 6kg.
Anything approaching his best is winning but we are getting an each way price to find out.
