Best From The West: Ascot – 5th December 2020

2020 can’t finish quick enough for most of the world and this Saturday also ends the G1s in Australia for this year.

TOO CLOSE THE SUN Picture: Racing Photos

It is a good punting day at Ascot and in the big one we think there is a great price about Too Close The Sun.

He has been in slashing form – just touched off in the Asian Beau, a brutal winner of the Gold Cup and then brave in the Railway.

That was not easy to drop back 200m on a quick turnaround but this set up is much better. He's back to the 1800m and can roll across to lead or at worst be outside it.

This race is renowned for being one suited to those sitting close up and making the others chase.

He gives his all over these distances and is great value each way.

Back to the Jungle Dawn Classic where there is a fascinating runner in the shape of Chantrea as she resumes following her winter victories in the Belmont Oaks and Classic.

On breeding alone she will be wanting 2000m+ going forward but she is unbeaten and by definition that is first up as well. They were over 1400m too.

Perhaps the biggest factor here – W Pike. This race contains Bob Peters mares and horses trained by Grant & Alana Williams and Adam Durrant and yet he was desperate to maintain the association with the mare he is yet to have one finish in front of him on.

She'll probably be back a bit but her finish will take some sort of defending no matter how fit she is. With that in mind suspect the price will drift on the day.
