The main Derby lead up is run at Morphettville on the weekend as we approach the G1 section of the Adelaide carnival.
That Chairman's is a good looking race but a horse who is loving finding ground, which is no surprise on his breeding, is Deepstrike and he will take plenty of holding out in the last race.
He was a bit too new in the Spring when he ran in a similar race (Hill Smith Stakes) and that turned into a good form event.
Now more mature he rounded them up from a long way back at Pakenham and then did the same at Sandown.
By Tavistock out of a Zabeel mare, he should only be thriving as we get to 2000m and beyond and the Price/Kent team are having a lovely trot.
A win won't mean SA Derby success with all the new blood coming from the Sydney Derby but if he did win on Saturday, he could go around great odds again then.
Earlier in the day they run the City Of Adelaide Handicap over 1400m and the Freedmans bring over a horse who has really found his form the last 12 months.
Groundswell had placed in a Caulfield Guineas so you knew his talent but hadn't been putting the wins on the board.
Twice a winner in the Spring, he quickly found the post again second up by leading all the way at Bendigo.
This looks his perfect distance and Damian Lane has been with him all the way so that familiarity is important.
