Brisbane Best: Doomben – 22nd May 2021

More Group 1 racing at Doomben on Saturday and with depth across the card there is plenty for punters to sink their teeth into.

Zaaki looks primed to take out a traditional Queensland double when he lines up in the day's feature, the Doomben Cup.

Annabel Neasham's import was an impressive 2.3 length winner of the Hollindale Stakes last start where he camped just behind the speed from a wider draw and the map suggests James McDonald can land him in a similar position.

While many of his rivals have already come through the southern carnivals, Zaaki has been improving with each run and will be hitting peak fitness fourth up so looks tough to stop.

McDonald is set for a good day with Matthew Dunn's capable colt Rocketing By ready to peak third up in the three-year-old sprint.

He has taken on Group races at both starts since a spell and finished less than three lengths off the winner each time, the latest when chasing well in the Gold Coast Guineas.

McDonald sticks with him through that run and the drop in trip should suit him as he goes well at the distance.

Rocketing By has a win and a placing from two previous third up attempts and looks set to show his best.
