It is Belmont Sprint day with the next of the Winter WFA series.
This is a highly competitive G3 race combining horses with G1 credentials and those looking to rise in those ranks.
Two weeks ago we thought The Velvet King was a good value hope in the Roma Cup but they didn't run so let's give him another go given that race was a blanket finish and the form might be tough to read.
Last prep was in Melbourne and he didn't come up in far harder races so they pulled the pin.
He's now with the normal team in his home environment and consider last year he was placed in every one of them including this race behind an in form mare Perfect Jewel.
The trials indicate he's on track so if he can get any luck early, he's value at double figures.
Also from that meeting two weeks ago, Graceful Girl ran very well coming from well back but she missed by under a length and we have her as the best on the day.
She now gets to 1200m which has to help and is second up so has that fitness improvement.
Consider from her five starts, the three losses were below Saturday's distance and the wins at that trip.
She will probably ease out early but hopefully won't be having to make up too many lengths from the turn.
