Best From The West: Belmont – 3rd July 2021

3 minute read

There are two feature three year old staying races at Belmont on the weekend.

Belmont Park Picture: RWWA

The first of those is the Belmont Oaks and Sheza Chalmer looks to have a handle on these if repeating the Belmont Guineas effort.

She sat back in the field over the mile and rounded them up, coming away late.

Now out to the 2000m, that appears no issue whatsoever and back to fillies grade can't hurt either.

She will get buried away from the inside draw but once she gets out as others tire, assuming she handles a softer surface, she should be too good for them.

Can't see us getting the black odds any more.

Then to the Aquanita Stakes for the boys where some new blood brings in winning form.

Crescent City won well enough at Northam but then backed that up winning here over the mile just last week.

He is by Fiorente so getting to the 2000m is such a positive as well. They tend to just lift again.

Not needing to get a long way off them, Pike would hope to sit midfield at worst and then be presented on straightening.

He's no world beater but could be a horse on the rise in the WA regions, even out to 2400m in time.
