Melbourne Mail: Caulfield – 10th April 2021

3 minute read

As we head toward the winter months of racing, there are still features which play significant roles through the season.

LIQUEURO winning the Bendigo St Leger Trial at Bendigo in Australia. Picture: Racing Photos

This is the case on Saturday with the Galilee Series Final for the 3yo stayers as they could head on to the South Australian Derby.

It is very easy to like what Liqueuro is doing as he steps up in distance.

Not hard to work out on breeding that he would enjoy that being by Fiorente but his only defeat came when dropped back in trip and he ran on well there.

In the Leger Trial he was strong on the line and another furlong is perfect. It's good to see some staying breds right in the market here but this one has the best form and best ratings.

Expecting he will be too good and perhaps head to Adelaide or even Brisbane.

For the other play we'll take another Jye McNeil ride in the shape of Superium.

Here is a horse who has changed stables into the Hawkes yard and when they switch them interstate it is often a goldmine.

He was generally a competitive horse in Sydney but didn't win often and might just need dry tracks.

Assuming it is not too bad at Caulfield, he can sit off what you'd think would be decent enough tempo and be hitting home hard.
