A closing last-start effort will have Chris Waller’s stayer Humbolt Current ready to strike fourth up at Doomben on Saturday.
The gelding was strong to the line last start to go down by just a neck and should enjoy the return to this course where he has won three of six attempts.
Humbolt Current is also a four-time winner at 2000m and Jim Byrne can secure him a good run in transit from gate two.
Progressive gelding Kingston's Here can kick punters off on the right note by taking out the day's opener.
The O'Dea-Hoysted gelding started a hot favourite fresh at Sunshine Coast and proved too good under 61.5kg.
That gave him two wins and a placing from three attempts at this distance range and he looks well placed to score again.
