A very quiet meeting in Perth the week following the Perth Cup day card.

Ascot Picture: Racing and Sports

With William Pike back on the tram, punters will have some normality and he should ride a few this week. A couple late in the day look big hopes.

Proconsent has raced some good horses recently away from the black type races and despite giving away good starts, has flashed home.

He scored two back and then just missed in Rating 72+under 60kg when odds on.

Now with Pike getting back on, he can sit just off midfield but this time with near the limit weight, his finish might be hard to withstand.

Clearly he faces horses with form against stronger but combining the weight, jockey and set up, he can win the Easingwold Stakes.

Over to the last where Material Witness tries to add to the first up win at Pinjarra.

The gelding has a top overall record, admittedly around the provincial areas but to be fair much of this field is at that level or the midweeks.

Pike has been with him many times and will know his ways. He will need a little luck and manoeuvring early so having that experience is a blessing.

The fact they have come to town now off that victory suggests the Durrant team think he is ready for Saturday racing.
