After a few weeks away, it's back to the main Morphettville track on Saturday, with heavy conditions predicted.
Back to the course proper at Morphettville after a few weeks on the parks and country tracks. Last week was disappointing with Hanabi rock solid in the market and failing to fire, although I was a bit shocked they didn't roll forward.
No point dwelling on the past however, as there is always another race and winner to be found, and hopefully that winner comes in the form of Sacred Palace who goes around in Race 6.
He closed off well without threatening at Caulfield last time out under 60kg and looks well placed across the border with 56kg on his back. At first he seemed like a designated backmarker when coming across the ditch, but in recent runs he's shown an ability to hold a position midfield which should be ideal here from barrier two.
A wet track will pose no issue with the track looking likely to be in the heavy range and Fry will just need to be patient in picking his run. I think he's a deserving favourite and a decent price at 3-1.
The horse I'm most keen to back on the day however is Lord Bouzeron who goes around in Race 3 at a generous quote of 5-1.
Where I can find notable chinks in most of the field due to ground, the Kiwi gelding will relish wet ground and looks set to run a big race.
Just fair two back, but forgivable given he was five weeks between runs, he stuck on well last week at Murray Bridge in a race where the trifecta all came from well back in the field. The horse that sat 2nd in the race was beaten some 18 lengths, albeit at 100-1.
The effort was strong, he's raced very well on the quick backup in the past, steps up in trip, rolls forward and likes wet ground. Of the horses in the market, he makes most appeal and I would make him closer to $4 than the $6 widely available so he'll be my best of the day.
