Packing Eagle wins 2017 Sweynesse Stakes Group 3 NZ$70,000 at Arawa Park (NZ), 1215m.
Group One-placed and multiple winner in Hong Kong, Packing Eagle finally struck in track conditions to suit and powered away to win comfortably. From barrier eight Trudy Thornton bounced him away well to be handy early then eased him slightly to settle sixth, one out.
Near the last corner Thornton moved out to challenge and although four wide turning in, he was travelling well. Giving the leader four lengths, they balanced then flew past the leader at the 100m to clear out for an impressive win.
Scapolo was a clear last at the 600m, didn't find racing room until deep in the straight and ran on strongly for a good second.
Salamanca lay second into the straight and was kept going to hold third from Irish Moon, who led to the 150m but faded for fourth.
