Julius wins 2018 Darley Stallions Plate Group 3 NZ$100,000 at Ellerslie (NZ), 1200m.
Although a six-year-old, lightly raced Julius is putting together an impressive race record, recording back to back Group Threes and six wins plus four placings from just ten starts. He settled third from the jump as jockey Jason Waddell was content to let the leader (Rich Billie Marsh) streak away but crept closer at the 500m.
Easing away from the fence rounding into the straight, Waddell waited until the 250m to get serious and Julius responded, ranged up to the leaders and had them well covered at the 50m to win fairly comfortably.
Heroic Valour sat midfield (rails) at the 500m and kept to the fence the length of the straight, finishing well to nab second from Sultan Of Swing who from midfield at the last corner threaded between runners, running on well for third.
Passing Shot took over the pace into the straight and kept going quite well for a close fourth.
