Love Affair wins Eagle Technology Stakes Group 3 NZ$70,000 at Ellerslie, 1600m.
At start 12 and with two Group placings to her name, Love Affair deservedly broke through for her maiden stakes win and sixth win overall with a determined effort here. After a good beginning she soon drifted and settled third last, one of the fence.
The field compacted at the 800m and jockey Matthew Cameron sent her forward and although three wide, was close up approaching the last corner. She straightened three wide into the straight, went after the leader, shared the lead at the 100m then Cameron kept pumping and she kept finding to get there by a head.
Meeska Mooska went up three wide at the 600m to form a line of three, took over into the straight and was caught at the 100m, fought hard but was nutted in the last few strides.
Tiptronic trailed the first three (rails) to the home straight, got out at the 200m to challenge and looked a chance before weakening a shade to third. Elusive Treasure battled away best of the rest for fourth.
