Star Exhibit wins 2019 Tabtouch-Perth Cup Group 2 $500,000 at Ascot (WA), 2400m.
Winner of this race in 2016, Star Exhibit scored a surprise $31 victory. Having his sixth run this preparation and one of five runners for leading owner Bob Peters, he settled in near last on the rails from his wide barrier (15).
He improved, between runners, from the 800m, got a split on straightening and finished too well to score a good win in a solid staying performance. It was also a good ride by Peter Hall.
The favourite Action , another of Peters’ runners, enjoyed a good trip in fifth place (between runners). William Pike steered him into clear running rounding the home turn, looked the winner when he hit the front at the 200m but he could not hold off the late-closing winner for a good second.
Prize Catch raced eighth place (between runners), tracked through nearing the home turn and kept running nicely to take third.
The Bob Peters-raced mare Mississippi Delta raced in fifth place, but caught three wide, was third rounding the home turn and battled on well for (3.5 lengths) fourth after racing deep most of the way while Gatting made late ground from 11th at the 800m for (4 lengths) fifth.
