Consensus wins Barneswood Farm Trentham Stks Group 3 NZ$70,000 at Trentham, 2100m.
Former Group 1 winner Consensus returned to form after a top ride from Chris Johnson to lead all the way for her ninth win (fourth stakes). Johnson bounced her out to lead with a circuit remaining and took control by a length and a half starting the back straight. She bowled along comfortably past the 1000m, around the big Trentham bend and into the home straight yet Johnson sat quietly.
Inside the 400m she lowered her head and began to pull clear, increased her lead with every stride and was under no pressure to be three and half lengths in front at the post.
Hank Moody was third last (rails) at the 800m, kept to the fence turning but didn’t see daylight until the 200m then finished on quite well for second.
Chance To Dance sat behind the leader, one out, from the 1200m to top of the straight, challenged but could not make any impression, fading slightly to third. Kamanda Lincoln lay fourth (rails) turning in, tried to get on terms but found little then held on gamely for fourth.
