2019 Mornington Cup Listed $350,000 at Mornington, 2400m.
Ultra versatile and widely travelled Self Sense made it two Cup wins in six days, while he has three wins over hurdles to his name and with this, his 15th win (third stakes), is now exempt from the ballot for the Caulfield Cup (Gr.1, 2400m).
He sat sixth (one out) with more than a circuit to run, seventh around the far turn starting the back straight and held that spot in the clear past the 1200m. With four behind him at the 800m he improved steadily to sit four wide but handy just before straightening before catching the leader at the top of the straight.
He led by a length at the 100m then held on gamely by a short head at the line and subsequently survived a protest from the runner-up.
Tarquin was sixth at the 800m, moved up three wide to be third before straightening,went after the winner in the straight and was taking ground off him but too late. Top weight Trap For Fools led them in and fought strongly to the line for third from Stars Of Carrum ,who flashed into fourth right on the line.
