Talented Godolphin-raced stayer Avilius  is now the winner of three of his four starts this preparation after taking out his first Group 1 here, his ninth win from 17 starts. He was ridden patiently by Kerrin McEvoy, settling back in tenth place, tracking a good tempo. He improved (wide with cover) at the 600m, went to fifth at the 300m, continued his bid to hit the front at the 100m before going on to score impressively.

The British-trained entire He’s Eminent  went to the front, picked up the pace from the 1000m, turned for home with a clear advantage and was only headed at the 100m, then fighting back well for second after running a bold race at this first start in Australia.

New Zealand mare Danzdanzdance raced in eighth place, on the rails, improved on the inner rounding the home turn, went to a challenging position at the 200m and then kept fighting well for third in a good performance also at her first Australian start.

Unforgotten worked wide early on from her difficult barrier (13), settled in fourth place and then fought on to retain that position (beaten 6 lengths) in a sound effort after her early exertions, while Nettoyer ran on nicely from well back in the field for (6.2 lengths) fifth.
