Archedemus wins Members’ Hcp Listed $125,000 at Doomben, 1600m.
The Gwenda Markwell-trained Archedemus followed his win in the Hawkesbury Cup (Group 3, 1600m) on April 27 with another stakes victory here, his seventh win from 10 starts.
He again went to the front, set quite a good tempo under Corey Brown, got a break on straightening and was not seriously threatened from that point to win well. Tom Melbourne , raced in fourth place (with cover) going a bit keenly in stages, looked to have claims when he moved up rounding the home turn and then kept running on well for second, his 13th such placing (with 6 wins) in 43 starts.
The favourite Gem Song began well and went to the front before easing to track the leader and eventual winner. He briefly looked a threat at the 200m but then kept fighting on for third after seeming to have had every chance.
