Grey Lion wins Lord Mayors Cup Listed $150,000 at Rosehill, 2000m.
Irish-bred import Grey Lion is now a winner of two of his three starts, both at stakes level, since joining the Matthew Smith stable. He travelled well for Kathy O’Hara in sixth place, one off the rails.
He moved up nicely to straightening, took a narrow lead at the 200m and then gamely fought off challengers to score by the barest of margins.
Girl Tuesday raced in ninth place, improved well (deep) coming to the home turn, challenged at the 200m and then battled well for the closest of seconds.
Live And Free settled in tenth place, switched out on turning for home and kept running on nicely for a close-up third. Black On Gold was last in the 13-horse field, went between runners at the 200m and finished well for (0.5 lengths) fourth.
