Etana wins Magic Millions The Roses Group 2 $200,000 at Doomben, 2000m.
The well-supported Ciaron Maher and David Eustacetrained mare Etana won well here, her fourth win in nine starts and her first a stakes level. She raced in seventh place on the rails, improved behind runners nearing the home turn, got into the clear in the latter stages and fought best to score a narrow but very good win.
It was also another really good ride by John Allen. Aliferous settled in ninth place, on the rails, switched deeper and into clear running at the 200m and then finished strongly for a late-closing second.
Welsh Legend raced back in 11th place, on the inner, got along the rails on turning for home, briefly took a narrow lead at the 100m and then fought on to take third from Itz Lily who had been handy all the way before finishing a nice (1.4 lengths) fourth.
The favourite Scarlet Dream settled well back in 13th place, made a wide move coming to the home turn and steadily made ground for (2.5 lengths) seventh in her first start since second in the ATC Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) at Randwick on April 13.
