Kiwia wins Sportsbet Ballarat Cup, Listed, $500,000 at Ballarat, 2000m.
Winner of this race last year, Kiwia made it back-to-back wins with a solid performance in scoring here. He settled in eighth place (three wide with cover), moved up well (deep) at the home turn, grabbed the lead at the 50m and then fought well to score a narrow but very good win.
Double You Tee raced near the tail of the field, eased deep and into clear running on straightening and then finished well for a late-closing (short head) second.
Another Dollar was handily placed in fourth spot before moving up nicely at the home turn. She got to a narrow lead at the 100m and then fought on well for a close-up third, narrowly in front of her stablemate Carzoff who came from tenth at the home turn to finish (0.9 lengths) fourth.
The favourite Dr Drill enjoyed a good trip under Craig Williams, racing in third place. He got a split to challenge in the straight and then fought on for fifth, beaten a length, after seeming to have had every chance with Fifty Stars battling on quite well under his top weight (60.5kg) for (1.1 lengths) sixth
