Alward Wins Atc Cup, Listed, $140,000 at Rosehill, 2000m.
After four placings at stakes level, the Irish-bred/Chris Wallertrained Alward broke through to record a good win in this Listed event. Returning to Sydney after a successful Queensland campaign, he was given a good trip by Hugh Bowman in fifth place on the rails.
He got through to third on straightening, took the lead at the 200m and then went on to score comfortably.
Black On Gold settled well back in the field, improved between runners at the home turn and kept running on to grab second in a photo.
Tamarack raced in eighth place, improved out wide from the 300m and steadily made ground to take third, just in front of Taikomochi who led the field until halfway down the straight before holding on for fourth while the favourite House Of Cartier was nicely placed to the home turn but faded in the straight to finish tenth in a disappointing performance.
