Race 1: Saint Loft

One to keep an eye on from Wednesday's Bendigo meeting is Julius Sandhu -trained gelding Saint Loft .

On debut in the first at Bendigo over 1100m, this son of Written Tycoon  was the best away when jumping from the widest barrier and was quickly ridden along by jockey Craig Newitt  in the early going.

Newitt eventually crossed his mount to the fence passing the 700m and looked to steady the tempo.

The three-year-old was able to catch a minor breather, until the pressure piled on approaching the 400m.

Upon straightening, the gelding was able to kick away slightly before being quickly eyeballed by the favourite on the outside at the 300m.

With lack of race experience, especially compared to that of the favourite, and the amount of energy burnt earlier in the race, Saint Loft could be forgiven for folding up and not being able to strike the killer blow.

However, the debutant found plenty when challenged and careered away to the line, widening the margin as they got closer to the finishing post.

The effort displayed by Saint Loft  in his Maiden win was greatly encouraging and indicates he already has a winner's mentality.

Could just be scratching the surface with this one. Worth following.
