Freo's AFLW debutant decked by knee injury

3 minute read

Brianna Moyes' AFLW debut turned into a nightmare, with the Fremantle rookie suffering a season-ending knee injury against the Magpies.

Former Perth Lynx basketballer Brianna Moyes will miss the rest of the AFLW season after scans confirmed she has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee.

Moyes was making her debut for the Fremantle Dockers when she suffered the injury early in the first quarter of Saturday's 33-point win over Collingwood.

The 27-year-old was in tears after the match while she sat in the middle of the huddle to sing the club song with the rest of her teammates.

"Brianna has worked so hard to get to the point where she could make her debut, so for her to be injured in the first quarter was obviously devastating to see," Fremantle's AFLW high performance manager Kate Starre said.

"She will undergo surgery and following that we will work closely with her on a rehab program to get her back on her feet.

"The whole club is behind her."

The Dockers sit second in group A with a perfect 3-0 record.

Fremantle will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Adelaide at TIO Stadium in Darwin.

Midfielder Hayley Miller will miss the clash after copping a one-match suspension for rough conduct.
