The AFL expects the match between St Kilda and Port Adelaide to go ahead in China in May.

The league confirmed in a statement it will monitor the coronavirus outbreak in the country ahead of the scheduled match between the two Australian clubs at Jiangwan Stadium on May 31.

"The AFL will take advice from the Australian government and World Health Organisation regarding any safety precautions related to the coronavirus," the statement said.

"The St Kilda vs Port Adelaide match scheduled to be played in Shanghai on May 31 will go ahead as planned.

"The situation will continue to be monitored with the relevant health and safety precautions being exercised."

The virus has caused the deaths of over 100 people in China and has left thousands more ill.

Shanghai, where May's game is scheduled to take place, has reported 66 cases of the virus so far.
