Jake Carlisle is free to play in St Kilda's next match despite being charged with misconduct for targeting Dane Rampe's injured hand.
St Kilda defender Jake Carlisle has been charged with misconduct for repeatedly slapping Dane Rampe's injured hand in the Saints' AFL win over Sydney.
But Carlisle has escaped suspension, instead offered a $500 fine for an early guilty plea to the first offence.
The incident occurred during a third-quarter melee in the Saints' thumping 53-point win at the Gabba.
Stand-in Swans skipper Rampe had a plate and several screws inserted in his broken right hand on Monday and wore a protective glove during the match.
Carlisle targeted Rampe's hand in an incident that quickly drew condemnation from past players.
"It's just stupid," four-time Hawthorn premiership player Jordan Lewis told Fox Footy.
"There's nothing to achieve there and it's a shocking look for the game. It just didn't need to happen."
Western Bulldogs great Brad Johnson added: "You're just putting yourself in that position again for critics to come.
"You just can't be doing that. It's not a good look for anybody, in particular for Jake Carlisle."
Carlisle is free to play in St Kilda's next match, against Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Thursday night.
The Saints will be aiming for their fourth consecutive victory as they look to firm up their spot in the top eight.
