Scans have confirmed an ACL tear for luckless Melbourne defender Marty Hore after his left knee buckled during a tackle at training.
Melbourne defender Marty Hore is set to miss the entire 2021 AFL season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a training mishap.
Hore suffered the injury during an innocuous tackle towards the end of a three-hour session at Casey Fields on Friday.
If the 24-year-old opts to undergo a traditional reconstruction he will miss between nine to 12 months of action.
Hore failed to play a game last year due to quad and toe injuries, and his latest setback is a massive blow to his career.
"Unfortunately, the scans have confirmed that Marty has ruptured his ACL and will miss an extended period of time," Melbourne's general manager of football performance Alan Richardson told media.
"This is devastating news for Marty and the club, as he was preparing for the season ahead."
"Marty is a very impressive and resilient person, and we will fully support him through his rehab.
"He'll meet with the surgeon next week to discuss the appropriate treatment required to repair the ACL."
Hore was selected with pick No.56 in the 2018 national draft and played 14 matches as an intercept defender in 2019.
