Sydney AFL superstar Lance Franklin has been handed a one-match suspension for his high elbow on Fremantle's Luke Ryan.

Franklin was caught in a Ryan tackle in the second quarter of Sydney's win at Metricon Stadium on Sunday when he flung back his left elbow, making clear contact to the Docker's head.

Match review officer Michael Christian charged Franklin with striking and assessed the incident as careless conduct, high contact and medium impact, which drew a one-game ban.

If he accepts the suspension, Franklin will miss the Swans' clash with Essendon.

Franklin booted two goals against Fremantle, moving to 983 in his career as he closes in on the 1000-goal milestone.

He has booted 39 goals in 14 games this year after having his entire 2020 season ruined by injury.

Franklin was previously fined $2000 for making forceful front-on contact with Port Adelaide's Jarrod Lienert last month.

Elsewhere, teammate Dane Rampe was offered a $2000 fine for tripping Fremantle's Michael Walters.

Geelong defender Tom Stewart received a $2000 fine for rough conduct for a dangerous tackle on Richmond's Jake Aarts on Sunday.
