Brisbane are set to receive a big boost for their tantalising AFL clash with St Kilda with spearhead Joe Daniher expected to return from a shoulder injury.

Daniher hasn't played since he was substituted out of the round-seven win over Sydney but he has trained filly for the past three weeks in readiness for a return.

The key forward booted 19 goals in a red-hot first six games this season and would add serious firepower for Lions (9-3) against the Saints (8-3) at the Gabba on Saturday night.

"He's always been targeted for this week," Lions coach Chris Fagan told 3AW radio.

"He's been in training for the last three weeks.

"So he's keen to play. The medical people think he should play. They don't think having another couple of weeks off is going to make too much difference.

"So I'm in their hands. I hope and pray that they're right."

Skipper Dayne Zorko was excited at the prospect of regaining gun tall Daniher as the Lions attempt to bounce back from their loss to Fremantle.

"Hopefully he'll be returning this week which would a great result for us," Zorko told SEN radio.

"It's been about six or seven weeks anyway so he's probably due to come back. So fingers crossed."

Zorko said his own finger injury against Fremantle wasn't as bad as it looked, despite the sight of blood pouring out of his hand as he left the Optus Stadium field in the second quarter.

"That is a good result (not tearing the webbing), because I believe the webbing would take a longer time to heal and would struggle healing," Zorko said.

"But right on the bottom knuckle, it just got stood on and it just split straight open.

"(Blood) was just spurting out like a chocolate fountain. It was quite bizarre."
