AUSTRALIA v ENGLAND, THIRD TEST, DAY THREE:

Score: England 185 and 68, Australia 267

Result: Australia win by an innings and 14 runs, go 3-0 up in the series and retain the Ashes

Summary: After England fought hard for most of day two, normality was restored on Tuesday as Australia destroyed the tourists in less than 28 overs. Day three lasted barely an hour as England's last six wickets fell in the blink of an eye as Australia retained the Ashes.

Man of the moment: An all-time performance from debutant Scott Boland, who set the MCG alight with two extraordinary spells. After grabbing two wickets late on Monday, it somehow got even better for the Victorian on day three as he cleaned up England to finish with the barely believable figures of 6-7.

Key moment: If England were any chance of making Australia bat again, Joe Root simply had to go big. But after a prolific year, the England captain was unable to pull his side out of another hole. Root started well but the match quickly ended after his dismissal for 28 and falling to red-hot Boland.

Stat of the day: Boland conceded the fewest runs for a six-wicket haul on debut in Test history, eclipsing Australian Charlie Turner's 6-15 in 1887.

Quote of the day: "It all just feels like a dream. The MCG, last night, and this morning - that's why we love Test cricket" - Australia coach Justin Langer told Fox Cricket
