Score: Australia 303 & 3-37, England 188

Summary: Australia resumed at 6-241 with Nathan Lyon launching three sixes to help push the score past 300. England lost both openers cheaply before Dawid Malan and Joe Root launched a mini-recovery. The visitors fell away after the pair were dismissed by Pat Cummins. Australia's quicks claimed all the wickets with Lyon not getting a bowl. England struck three blows under lights but the hosts ended the day with a 152-run lead.

Man of the moment: Australian captain Cummins took 4-45 - his second-best figures of the series - including the scalps of Malan and Root in back-to-back overs midway through the middle session.

Key moment: Cummins trapped Root lbw for 34 with a delivery that seamed back and would have clipped the top of the stumps.

Stat of the day: 17 wickets fell in an action-packed contest.

Quote of the day: "That was bloody tough conditions out there. He showed why he's the best in the world." - Cummins on Steve Smith, who survived a thorough examination at night to finish unbeaten on 17.
