Abbott hurt, leaves Australia's T20 tour

3 minute read

Fast bowler Sean Abbott is heading back to Australia after fracturing a finger at training ahead of the first Twenty20 against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Bowling allrounder Sean Abbott has fractured a finger at training and will leave Australia's tour of Sri Lanka.

The 30-year-old was struck on the hand during a net session and scans have confirmed a fracture to his left index finger.

Abbott was in Australia's Twenty20 squad only and not picked for the first of three games against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Tuesday night.

After the T20Is, Australia will face Sri Lanka in five ODIs, before a two-Test series in Galle.

Victorian batter Peter Handscomb has also returned home to be with his partner ahead of the birth of their first child after being in Australia's A squad.

Fast bowler Scott Boland, who enjoyed a breakout summer during the last three Tests of the Ashes, and Queensland batter Jimmy Peirson are the replacements for Abbott and Handscomb.

Boland will fly to Sri Lanka immediately ahead of Australia A's first four-day game.
