Rescheduled City-Jets game moved to Sydney

Melbourne City will travel to Sydney to play their rescheduled A-League home game against Newcastle behind closed doors.

Melbourne City's final regular-season A-League home game against Newcastle will be played behind closed doors in Sydney.

City's game against the Jets, originally scheduled for May 29 was postponed amid Melbourne's coronavirus outbreak and lockdown.

It will now be played at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Thursday, kicking off at 7.05pm.

City will travel to Sydney on Wednesday and are looking to snap their two-game winless run heading into finals.

While City cannot be moved from first place, Newcastle can avoid the wooden spoon - and hand it to Melbourne Victory - with either a draw or win.

The Jets are a point behind Victory, but have a vastly superior goal difference.

City are due to host a home semi-final at AAMI Park on Friday, June 18 and have the right to host the grand final on Saturday, June 26 if they qualify.

Melbourne's lockdown is due to end at 11.59pm Thursday but if the city's coronavirus situation does not improve and only limited or no crowds are permitted at sporting events, City's finals could be moved interstate.
