Sydney FC coach Steve Corica is on the verge of creating more A-League history and only Melbourne City stand in his way.
Sydney FC and coach Steve Corica will head into the A-League grand final knowing they're on the verge of history.
The unassuming Corica took over from Graham Arnold after the 2017-18 season and won the grand final in his first season at the helm before going back-to-back and securing a premiership-championship double last year.
Now only Melbourne City stand in the way of Sydney becoming the first team to complete a three-peat, and Corica standing alone as the only coach to win three A-League championships.
"That (the three-peat) would be very special (personally), but it'd be very special for the players and the club as well - that's the most important thing," Corica said.
"I'll be delighted, if that happened as well but I'll be very pleased for everyone.
"... It's more important that we win the game, it's not so much about myself. Of course I want to win it, the players want to win it, the staff are prepared to win it.
"This was planned from the start of the season to win another trophy but this one was obviously an important one because we know if we do (win) it that it's something special and it'll create history.
"So it's definitely on the players' minds - they know about it and we're looking forward to the challenge."
Sunday's game at AAMI Park is Sydney's record seventh grand final appearance, and the Sky Blues have a plethora of experience on their side.
Kosta Barbarouses and Luke Brattan are both eyeing a fifth championship - which would equal Michael Theo's A-League record - while Alex Wilkinson and Milos Ninkovic are among those chasing a fourth winners medal.
"Obviously they're experienced, they've been in this position a few times," City coach Patrick Kisnorbo said.
"We know they're a good team.
"But for me, in the whole season, it's always been about what we need to do and how we go about it."
Meanwhile the league confirmed NSL great Josip Biskic would present the Joe Marston Medal to the player of the match - 30 years after he won the award in the 1990-91 grand final.
