New Zealand raider Deane Martin has recorded his first Australian win in the Group 3 Colin Stephen Quality.

Deane Martin was having his third run since arriving from across the Tasman and showed good improvement for a neck win in the Group 3 Colin Stephen Quality (2400m).

Iggi Pop ran second with Celtic Prince third.

Equal favourites Travolta and Multilateral were struggling a long way from home and finished fifth and sixth respectively, each well beaten.

Deane Martin will have one more run in Sydney, backing up in next Saturday’s Group 1 Metropolitan at Randwick for which he a $15 chance according to TAB Sportsbet Fixed Odds.

Melbourne will then ensue for the son of Keeper according to part owner Allen Peard.

“He had to win today to step up and be a chance to go to Melbourne,” Peard said.

“He’d almost have to win the Metropolitan to get into the big ones.

“If he doesn’t win the Metropolitan we’ve still got other options like the Herbert Power, Ballarat Cup, Geelong Cup and the Lexus.”
