Japanese star Admire Rakti remains a firm favourite for Tuesday’s Emirates Melbourne Cup following the declaration of the final field and barrier draw at Flemington on Saturday night.

Caulfield Cup winner Admire Rakti is a $5 favourite at Sportingbet and tops the betting ahead of Protectionist ($6.50), Lucia Valentina ($7.50) and Signoff ($7.50).

Admire Rakti will start from barrier 8 on Tuesda, a lucky gate for trainer , Tomoyuki Umeda.

"I am very pleased," Umeda said. "Number eight is lucky. It is a good barrier for him and the same as he drew in the Caulfield Cup.

"I have a little concern with the weight at the distance, but he's a staying horse and should be good at the distance."

Admire Rakti eventually started from barrier seven at Caulfield after scratchings.

“The money for Admire Rakti has been solid ever since his Caulfield Cup victory and at this stage he’s our second worst result behind Fawkner,” Sportingbet’s Andrew Brown said.

“One punter wasn’t overly concerned which gate Admire Rakti was going to get and had $12,000 each way on him just before the commencement of the barrier draw.”

Fawkner is next in betting at $11, with Mutual Regard ($13) and Red Cadeaux ($17) the only other runners under $20.

In TAB Fixed Odds betting Admire Rakti is also considered the one to beat, having been favourite since its outstanding victory in the Caulfield Cup a fortnight ago.

The biggest mover in Cup betting on Saturday was Lexus winner Signoff.

As much as $51 was bet earlier this week and $17 on Saturday morning before the Darren Weir-trained galloper took out the Lexus at Flemington to charge into contention.

TAB slashed his Cup price to $6.50 shortly after the win but he drifted to $7 after he drew barrier 16.

In other movers of note after the barrier draw include:

• Lucia Valentina $7 into $6.50 after drawing barrier 2

• Fawkner $9.50 into $9 (barrier 9)

• Cavalryman $26 into $21 (barrier 3)

One TAB punter was keen on the chances of Protectionist after he drew barrier 11, outlaying $9000 @ $7.50.

There are a number of Fixed Odds Doubles and Trebles riding on Admire Rakti’s hopes in Tuesday’s Cup.

One punter outlaid just $50 at odds of $1022 on a three-leg multi of Admire Rakti to win the Caulfield Cup and Adelaide to win the Cox Plate.

Should Admire Rakti win on Tuesday the investment will yield a whopping $51,122!

An impressive double is waiting to be collected by another TAB punter after placing $220 @ $187 on Admire Rakti completing the Caulfield – Melbourne Cup double.
