$160,000 Hanseatic colt topped Day 3 at this year’s Inglis Premier Sale
Peter Moody continued to be active when the Showcase yearlings took over at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale with the Pakenham trainer landing the top lot of Tuesday's third day.
Moody paid $160,000 for a chestnut colt by Hanseatic out of the Starspangledbanner mare Knowles, who boasts Golden Slipper winner Farnan on the pedigree page.
The Rosemont Stud-prepared colt was added to a collection of yearlings that included a $650,000 filly who is a sister to She Dances and a $525,000 Written Tycoon filly.
The Hanseatic colt earned Day 3 top honours by $10,000 with a colt by Peltzer from Admission and a colt by Shamus Award-Celestial Dance colt realising $150,000 each.
They were among 17 Showcase yearlings to realise $100,000 or more, which was seven up on the same session last year.
All-up, the Showcase session – where 207 yearlings were offered – turned over $6,119,500 at an average of $41,070.
That is on top of the $52,074,000 grossed on the two days of the main book, on Sunday and Monday, where yearlings sold at an average of $129,537, results that left Inglis organisers satisfied.
"The clearance for the main book is going to hit 80% and possibly higher, which is a testament to the work of the vendors in meeting the market and also to the buyers who have continued to search for opportunities,'' Inglis Bloodstock chief executive Sebastian Hutch said.
"The top of the market has statistically been notably strong, I mean when you look at year-on-year figures for lots to sell for $250,000 or more, $300,000 or more, $400,000 or more and $500,000 or more, they're either the exact same or ahead of the corresponding figures of 12 months ago.
"There is no disguising that there is a selectivity to the approach of buyers and at certain levels supply has exceeded demand, but the sale has really held up very well overall.
"We will continue to work really hard with vendors and buyers the next 24-48 hours especially to get as many more sales through as possible before moving our attention to Easter, which is without doubt going to capture a huge audience and be a fantastic spectacle once again.''
Inglis' attention now turns to the Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney, where 500 lots have been catalogued – including the first foal out of legendary mare Winx – for sale on April 7 and 8.
