A 'deadly' combination of a filly in good form and a jockey riding well is the recipe to success as far as co-trainer JD Hayes is concerned as Luna Cat steps at Caulfield.

In five starts, Luna Cat has missed the placings only once.

Among those runs were wins at Bendigo when breaking her maiden on soft ground over 1300 metres in November which was followed by a win in a benchmark 64 event for fillies at Moonee Valley in early December and stepped back to 1200 metres.

On Saturday, the filly by Puissance De Lune steps up to 1400 metres in the Ken Seymour Handicap at benchmark 70.

"Her win at Moonee Valley was really eye-catching and her last start at Flemington was full of merit too," JD said.

"With Josh Richards in the saddle, I think she'll be very hard to beat."

Richards and the Lindsay Park team combined for a winner at Sandown on Monday and both Ben and JD are keen to take advantage of Richards' good form with 39 wins in Victoria for the current season plus his three-kilo claim.

"It's a deadly combination," JD said.

"He's riding a lot of winners and using his claim really well."

Luna Cat is at $5.50 in the third race at Caulfield with the Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace-trained Lavish Girl and Rioyuki for Matthew Williams sharing favouritism at $4.80.
