Thirsty Guest looking to claim Gawler Cup

3 minute read

It would be a fitting win on the eve of the Cox Plate if promising galloper Thirsty Guest can make it three wins in succession in the $107,250 Gawler Cup (1500m) this afternoon.

The son of So You Think, who shot to fame winning the 2009 Cox Plate as a three-year-old before returning 12 months later to claim a second, comes off a dominant three length Morphettville victory and co-trainer Dan Clarken said the horse was trending in the right direction.

"It looks the right progressive race for him,'' Clarken said.

"He's a nice horse and he hasn't gone backwards since his win the other day,'' he said.

Punters have the Gawler a Cup a race in three.

Chicago Storm sits in the second line of betting as a $3.40 chance while Montign is a $4.20 chance from a wide barrier.

Both horses are coming off solid last-start efforts in the Listed Murray Bridge Cup.

The feature has a number of scratchings with Kristi Evans opting to run on the Parks at Morphettville on Saturday with highly promising galloper Platinum Wolf, likewise the Stokes stable with Birdsville Cup winner Neodium and the locally-trained Eaglelou.

Gawler horseman Darren McLeod has no short of three runners with East Indianman, Danish Fortune and Zoffala who is first-up for his stable after trying his hand at jumping last time in work.
