The Mick Kent-trained mare Epingle followed-up her recent Hobart Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) win to land the major Tasmanian stayer’s double by taking out the Launceston Cup in good style. Craig Williams eased her from her wide barrier (12) in the 13-horse field to settle second last. She commenced a wide run approaching the 600m point, challenged coming to the turn and took the lead shortly after straightening. She then went to the post strongly to score in good style by three quarters of a length. The Mark Riley-trained mare Gold To Go was eighth, one off the rails, before putting in a wide run at the 600m. She was under riding at the turn and came again in the straight for a sound second. Top weight Geegees Blackflash was in front of three runners at the 800m. He improved wide, tracking up the eventual winner Epingle at the 600m and kept battling on gamely under his weight for a most creditable third. *ANZ
