Neorealism settled down in third last position, about seven lengths from the early leader The United States. Pulling hard against the slow early pace Moreira let the Japanese-trained horse have his head at the 1000m mark making a move to the lead and considerably quickened up the pace. He turned for home a clear leader and kicked strongly withstanding all challengers to score a well earned victory. Pakistan Star was good in defeat once again. He was away suprisingly well from the gates settling down in third position on the fence before being shuffled back to fifth on the fence when Neorealism made his mid-race move. Taken to the outside of the field on turning for home he picked up well under De Sousa but could not pick off the determined winner. Werther enjoyed a lovely run in the race in fourth position one out one back. He had every chance in the straight working home gamely to finish a never nearer third.
