Hong Kong On The Radar For Bow Creek

The Godolphin stable is already looking beyond Melbourne Cup week with the impressive import Bow Creek following his eye-catching Australian debut at Moonee Valley last Saturday.

While Bow Creek is set to chase a Group One win at Flemington next week, trainer John O’Shea already has his eye on a trip to Hong Kong for the Irish import.

Bow Creek is yet to contest a G1 race in his 18-start career but his five victories in Europe includes two high class G2 wins in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood and Boomerang Mile at Leopardstown when he was trained by Mark Johnston.

Bow Creek had only been in Australia a month prior to last Saturday’s second in the G2 Crystal Mile (1600m), taking ground quickly off the winner Turn Me Loose in the last 100m to be beaten a half length.

It was a fine trial for the $1 million Emirates Stakes (1600m) on Saturday week where the import is certain to appreciate the big Flemington track.

O’Shea had already formed a big opinion of Bow Creek in the short time the Shamardal five-year-old had been under his care and is buoyant about his future prospects.

"We knew we had a horse, now we know we've got a very good one,” O’Shea said after the Crystal Mile.

"We learned very quickly that he was a very capable horse and he's shown us he's something special.”

So much so that O’Shea is looking at Bow Creek as an ideal candidate for the G1 Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin’s international meeting in December.

The Hong Kong meeting is looming as the vehicle to launch O’Shea onto the international stage in a big way as the Godolphin stable is packed with likely candidates for the four feature races on the Sha Tin program with many to race at Flemington over the next week.

Melbourne Cup week could be huge for O’Shea with the trainer set to be represented in all but one of the eight G1 races over the four days, Saturday’s Myer Classic being the carnival’s only major where he is without an entry.

However he could begin the week with a bang on Saturday with a terrific team to represent him in seven of the nine races led by Exosphere in the G1 Coolmore Stakes, Magic Hurricane and Contributer in the G1 Mackinnon Stakes and Shards and Tally in the G1 Victoria Derby.
