Melbourne Cup winner Prince Of Penzance will have a light autumn campaign with the focus on next year’s spring carnival.
Prince of Penzance is in the spelling paddock after his Flemington victory and a subsequent victory tour that took him to community celebrations in several corners of Victoria.
Trainer Darren Weir said Prince Of Penzance would be given a decent break and may only have one run during the autumn.
“He’ll probably come back and have just a run in Adelaide over the carnival and head towards spring again next year,” Weir said.
“He had a great prep but a very long prep and I guess we made it a bit longer for him as well by touring around.”
Weir said Prince of Penzance had more than done his job as a Melbourne Cup winner and wouldn’t be pushed to return to the track.
“To be honest it doesn’t matter to me if he ever races again,” he said.
“He deserves a good break and if he shows any signs of not wanting to do it again he won’t be.”
