AFL: Carlton aim to close the gap to Power

3 minute read

Port Adelaide will be out to consolidate third spot on the AFL ladder when they entertain eighth-placed Carlton, who will be looking to cut a four-point gap between the two teams.

Port are in great form this season and are emerging as a top candidate to go on and win the 2024 grand final.

They can be backed at 16.00 to go all the way, but need to keep the good times rolling against a Carlton side who are 7.00 to win the flag.

Carlton may be down in eighth spot on the ladder, but only four points separate them and Port heading into the game.

The Blues are one of five teams sitting on 28 points, so their trip to the Adelaide Oval is huge for both sides.

Port looking to Power on

Port Adelaide have bounced back well following defeat to the Crows in the Showdown and have won their last three games.

They picked up an impressive six-point win at Geelong and backed that up with victories over Hawthorn and North Melbourne.

The game against Hawthorn at the Adelaide Oval was tight to say the least, with the Power edging it by just one point.

A clash with Carlton could also be close, despite the fact they won by 95 points the last time the two sides met at the Adelaide Oval back in 2021.

Plenty of water has passed under the bridge since then and Port are priced at 6.00 to win this latest meeting by 1-12 points.

Todd Marshall starred in the win over the Kangaroos when booting five goals and is priced at 9.50 to kick the first on Thursday night.

Ollie Wines also impressed with two goals and 26 disposals, and will be a key cog in the Port Adelaide engine room. He is 1.65 to produce 25+ disposals once again.

Carlton searching for consistency

The Blues picked up a massive win over Gold Coast Suns last weekend, winning by 29 points, and they need to back it up in Adelaide.

Their last trip outside of Melbourne did not go well, as they lost by 52 points to Sydney, and there can be no repeat against another title contender.

Carlton have won the last two games against Port Adelaide, but both were in Melbourne and a trip to Adelaide represents a much tougher test.

However, they are more than capable of getting the job done, and have the players to help them get them over the line.

They include Charlie Curnow, who booted another four goals against the Suns and who currently leads the Coleman Medal standings with 33 goals.

Zac Williams also helped himself to four goals last time out and will be a big threat, while Curnow is 8.00 to kick the first of the game and Williams 17.00.

Carlton can be backed at 5.50 to win by 1-12 points.
