Racing and Sports Power Rankings for jockeys and trainers are based on Australian Group races over a rolling six-month period. The rolling six-month period will ensure that the rankings are fast, flexible and, hopefully, fun. The heart of the rankings is a system not unlike the famous ELO system - originally used to rank chess players but now used across a wide range of sports and zero-sum games. Each Australian Group race can be considered an experiment, the results of which lead to an update of the ratings on which the rankings are based. It is not just the winners of races that benefit but the winners of races within the race. Racing and Sports will update the rankings each week after Group races have taken place.
