3 minute read

There are four meetings due to take place on Monday, including eight-race cards at both Taree and Stawell.

Seven-race cards from Albury and Chinchilla complete the line-up on Monday.

Race 3 Taree

Think We're There @ 4.20

Race 5 Stawell

Duo Perna @ 3.80

Race 5 Albury

Proof Of Purchase @ 11.00

Think We're There backed at Taree

The third race on the Taree card is a 1600m Class 1 set weights contest due to take place on a heavy 10 track.

Highland Raider is expected to prove popular with punters, having made three starts at this venue this prep.

The four-year-old has demonstrated improvement with racing since returning, with a seventh in a 13-runner 1250m Class 1 handicap here in March.

The gelding raced on a heavy 8 track that day and arrives here on the back of a third in a 1614m Class 3 handicap on 28th April.

While Glen Milligan's gelding holds obvious claims, he has a wide alley to overcome here and it can pay to look elsewhere for the winner.

Trainer Jason Deamer boasts a 38% strike-rate (6/16) and a small level stakes profit at this venue in the last 12 months.

Deamer saddles Think We're There in this contest, with the twice-raced son of So You Think encountering a wet track for the first time.

The three-year-old won a 1000m barrier trial last month prior to debuting with a sixth of nine over 1300m at Kembla Grange just over two weeks later.

The form of that is working out well with the third and fourth home that day both breaking their maidens next time out.

While the 4.20 pick tackles winners here, he took a step forward when stepped up to this distance for a 1600m maiden at Tamworth 10 days ago.

The selection was beaten less than two lengths from a wide barrier that day and, with further improvement expected, he is taken to record a victory under Ashley Morgan.

Duo poised for Stawell success

The fifth race of the day at Stawell is a 1600m Benchmark 64 handicap event with Mark Of The Man expected to be towards the head of the betting.

The six-year-old demonstrated good form at this venue when placing third in a similar race to this over track and trip at the end of March.

The gelding raced on a good 3 track that and followed that effort up with a narrow defeat when runner-up over 1606m in a similar event at Terang.

Trained by Aaron Purcell, he raced on a soft 5 surface at Terang, however he failed to shine when seventh over 1700m at Warrnambool when last in action on 1st May.

Two places ahead of him that day was Duo Perna, who is the selection in this contest having registered a number of solid efforts this prep.

The four-year-old has placed in the top four in three of his last four starts, including when beaten less than one-and-a-half-lengths over 1406m at Terang on 14th April.

The 3.80 selection jumped at odds of $15 when contesting a Benchmark 64 handicap held on a soft 5 track on that occasion and he has a good barrier here.

Harry Grace's mount is often ridden from off the pace and caught the eye in the previously mentioned Warrnambool event, with the jockey losing his whip.

Trainer Tom Dabernig's horses have been running well in the main this month and his representative can provide him with a winner in this event.

Purchase to resume with a win

The fifth race at Albury is an interesting 1000m Class 1 handicap contest expected to take place on a good 4 track.

Proof Of Purchase showed good form in maiden company for Phillip Stokes, including when placing third over 1200m on a wet track at Seymour in October.

The three-year-old went on to break her maiden by half-a-length when racing over the same distance at Bairnsdale two starts later.

The filly failed to make an impact when eighth in a 1209m Benchmark 58 handicap at Yarra Glen the following month however, she has changed trainer since that effort.

The 11.00 selection drops back in distance here, having joined the Craig Widdison stable since that Yarra Glen effort.

The good 4 track is a positive and, while she has a wide alley to overcome, she is taken to do just that with Danny Beasley's apprentice allowance a further positive.
