MELBOURNE STARS V MELBOURNE RENEGADES
Tuesday brings the first Melbourne Derby of the season as the Stars host the Renegades at the MCG. After a painful start to the season, the Stars have begun to find their groove and they owe much to useful contributors Hilton Cartwright and Beau Webster, both of whom averaged over 30 with the bat across Melbourne's first five games with Cartwright striking at an impressive 164.10, whilst Webster also picked up a handful of wickets with the ball. They face their cross-town rivals who are trying to embark on a revival of their own, overcoming the Adelaide Strikers last Friday to register their first win of BBL13 following key performances from Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman (3/20 off four overs) and precocious batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk (70 off 37 balls).
The derby looms as yet another game that is too close to call. Therefore it's worth pondering just how far the talented Fraser-McGurk has come as the stroke-maker was dismissed in single figures in 12 of last his 16 BBL innings' prior to this season, but has made a number of telling contributions since his switch to the Gades and as a devotee of the big stage, we think he's ready to explode again here.
