Launceston Night Racing - Race by Race Preview

The R&S team bring you their tips for tonight's Launceston meeting.

Race 1: Ladbroke It! 2YO Maiden @ 6.23pm - 1100m

Geegees Legacy (1) led and improved again narrowly beaten at Hobart. Peaks on a quick back up and he sets a decent standard. Ms Tasmania (7) was a big trail winner and was heavily bet at Hobart on debut and folded up from the speed. She's been given time to get over it and expect her to be much sharper this evening. GO JEANIE (6) debuts with Newitt aboard and owns a trial win. Has an inside gate and should go well. Corsa Veloce (5) didn't do a lot on debut but is in good hands and the blinkers go on. A likely improver.

Race 2: Ladbrokes Odds Surge Maiden @ 6.53pm - 1200m

Rockierro (4) peaks off two near misses He will race forward from the handy barrier and he finds the right race to break through. Rohzhae (5) is busting to win and can feature with average luck pushing forward from the awkward barrier. Smart Artie (7) will likely improve with the three runs under the belt. In good hands and draws for the run of the race. BOHO STYLE (12) debuts and has trialled well. She's likely to race well.

Race 3: Ladbrokes Sports Bar Maiden @ 7.23pm - 1600m

The better chances all draw wide. Tricky. Miss Darkside (10) needs a good Pires ride but there was a lot to like about her narrow defeat at Hobart in a CL1 over this distance. Hits this at peak and with average luck will take beating. Buel (1) will settle back and go on the lip defeat here two runs ago over 1400m. The extra distance is sure to suit and he has more to give. Opalson (4) switched from a Victorian barn and made a place at Hobart finishing ahead of the above. The mile will suit better and he will hit the line. Thonatus (8) is a likely improver with Newitt replacing the apprentice.

Race 4: Happy Birthday Andrew Rigby Benchmark 68 Handicap @ 8.00pm - 2100m

Competitive. Monte Fleur (8) won here three-back and was only beaten 2.3L at Hobart her latest in stronger grade. Is well placed back to the 68 and no surprise to see her back in the winner's stall. Swoop There It Is (5) missed the hat-trick in the same race but wasn't beaten far. Carr can secure a soft run and she's a player on the bounce. Coup De Spry (3) is knocking on the door. Missed the latest here as a short-priced favourite but still lifted his figures. Imagine Howe (2) will race forward from a low barrier and presents owning a near miss on the synthetic over 1880m at this level. In a top barn and will get every chance to run out the extra metres.

Race 5: PFD Food Services Class 2 Handicap @ 8.30pm - 1600m

Agnete (3) has won two of her last three and missed a lip at the other. Improved again 2 weeks ago at Hobart this trip and can go on with it racing forward from an inside gate. Conumdrum (1) was plain the latest but the form prior more than stacks up. Has a small claim and the winkers applied for the first time and will race handy. Martini Blue (8) presents third up and expect good improvement over the longer distance. Is on a 7-day return and Newitt is a key jockey switch for the 3kg apprentice. Stablemate Born A Winner (4) won well on the synthetic and is in the mix.

Race 6: Ladbrokes Launceston Cup 28th February Benchmark 60 Handicap @ 9.00pm - 1200m

Cherokee Dancer (8) made the hat-trick on the synthetic and resumed with a nose defeat here in a CL3. Came back and was plainer after and prepared to forgive. Has the 2kg claim and the blinkers applied the first time. Fitter and she can get back on track. Gallant Warriors (2) resumes for the same barn and is certainly good enough. Has a small claim and soft draw and has trialled well. The betting will guide to his readiness. Ngapali Beach (5) won the CL2 here easily and has scope for further improvement. Has been briefly freshened but the awkward gate needs managing. Better Than Banksy (3) will give most a start but has been around the mark and is in the mix.

Race 7: Kevin Sharkie Class 2 Handicap @ 9.30pm - 1100m

Red Sphere (3) was on speed and came off a near miss here to deliver the CL1 on the synthetic at a short quote. Peaks now and the improving galloper can go on with it. Philosophers Stone (1) is also a last-start CL1 winner on the synthetic. He's improved and the former Victorian just has to bring that level of form to the turf. Fear The Sting (6) resumes and has switched from the Brunton yard. Performs fresh and owns two recent trial wins. Has an awkward barrier but is certainly good enough. Periwinkle (5) draws to advantage and continues to race well.

Race 8: Carlton & United Breweries Benchmark 68 Handicap @ 10.00pm - 1400m

Royal And Tough (2) led all of the way over 1350m to score by a nose at Devonport Synthetic last start when sent out as the favourite. He is racing well and should go close. Just A Tribute (1) came home strongly to score over 1430m last start after getting held up when straightening. Looks well placed to figure in the finish. General Assembly (5) finished a close-up seventh 1880m at Devonport Synthetic last start. From the inside draw and down slightly in weight he can return to form. Ethical Dilemma (4) didn't run a bad race over 1800m at Longford last start and is in the mix.
