Launceston Night Racing - Race by Race Preview

The R&S team bring you their tips for tonight's Launceston meeting.

Race 1: Ladbrokes Maiden @ 6.19pm - 1420m

Ada Way (1) has gone close to winning on a couple of occasions this season and only missed by a head here nearly 4 weeks ago. He has a good gate and surely that maiden win is not far away. On top. Probability (8) will be peaking third up and her condition only gave way late last time out. With some luck from a tricky gate, she can run into the money here. Ozturk (7) is heading the right way and should be bang on with her fitness after having 2 runs back on the Devonport polytrack this prep. The visors replace the blinkers and she only needs the right run from a wide gate to be a big winning threat in this. Mateus (2) flew home late to finish third at Hobart fresh up after a long spell and is backing up fairly quickly which is always a good sign. He loses nothing with Troy Baker taking the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 2: Ladbrokes Launceston Cup 28th February Maiden/Class 1 @ 6.50pm - 2150m

Happy Clan (3) kept on kicking hard off a wide trip when finishing fourth at Hobart last time out in a stronger line-up. His form prior had been good and all he needs is a strong tempo being set up front to have a big chance of taking this out. On top. Bellanive (7) was never on the track last time out and understandably weakened out of it. Her effort here for third before that is the guide to use and she should be right in the finish from a superior gate this time. Good Luck Bob (2) has opened this prep with a brace of solid efforts for third over a mile. He will be spot on third up with his fitness and the step up to a middle distance is ideal. Hard to beat. Knot Dancing (4) won her maiden here last October and after battling a bit since then she was back in the money last time out on the polytrack at Devonport nearly 4 weeks ago. She is suited by the journey and is a sound each-way hope again.

Race 3: Fashion for Fillies Sunday 25th February Benchmark 60 Handicap @ 7.20pm - 1120m

Champagne Cinders (2) followed up her strong effort for second at Hobart in her penultimate run with an all-the-way win at Devonport on their polytrack last time out a week ago. She is in a good space and can double up. Etosha (5) showed something more like his best form last start when finishing third at Hobart, less than a neck from the winner. He slides back a grade and should go close to taking this out. Nev's Boy (8) looks to have turned a corner recently and though he was only fifth last time out, he was under a length from the winner that day and gets a superior gate this time. He is ready to put his best hoof forward in this. No Access (1) has yet to fire on this track but has won fresh up in the past and with the aid of a 3-kilo claim, he is worthy of consideration.

Race 4: SEN Punters Marquee Cup Day Class 1 Handicap @ 7.55pm - 1220m

Rue De Palais (2) won his maiden fresh up last prep and is resuming from a spell that would have done him the world of good. He has not missed a cheque in 2 starts on this track and will get every chance to win this with Troy Baker in the saddle. Watch for him late. Bokeo (1) was nearly a month between starts last time out and it showed when his condition gave out in the home straight. He will be much sharper here and with the winkers replacing the blinkers, he is worth another chance. Princess Matoaka (5) came home with a late rush to pick up second a Hobart last start, beaten by a nose. She is expected to hold her form now and can go one better. Flight Ready (3) would have matured since over his spell and all of his form has come early in his prep. He has a handy gate and is worth including in all combinations.

Race 5: Shane Yates Memorial @ 8.30pm - 1420m

Dantes (2) has been handled patiently and after a couple of strong minor placings to open this prep, he was back in winning form at a recent trial. He will be spot on with his fitness third up and is ready to strike in this. On top, especially after drawing the pole position. Valiant Khan (7) ran on late when resuming here and then did not fire on the polytrack at Launceston last time out after getting too far back in the running. Troy Baker takes over the reins from an apprentice and he is worth another chance. Follow your money. Havlicek (1) is making his local debut after last racing in Queensland with mixed results. He should not be hard to place going forward and has won his last 2 trials. Siggy Carr in the irons is a bonus and he can take this out. Es And Es (4) did not fire on debut when more was expected and then set the record straight by winning his last start at Hobart by a short head when coming home with a well-judged run. He can take the next step immediately.

Race 6: Ray Trinder Memorial @ 9.00pm - 1620m

Charlie Bucket (4) has been taken along quietly and scored again at Hobart last time out by nearly 3 lengths to bring his record to 4 wins from 5 starts. He remains in the same class for this and the extra 2 kilos he has to carry won't be enough to stop him from winning again. Lovin' Bev (7) cleared her maiden status 3 starts back and so often happens when the penny drops, she has gone on with the job, completing the hat-trick of wins at Hobart 12 days ago/ She has run her opposition into the ground in each of her past 3 wins and will be the one to peg back again. Rich Clan (5) is racing his way back into full fitness and will relish the step up to a mile here. He has a good gate and David Pires returns to the saddle which is a bonus. Each-way value. Mywordis (1) next best.

Race 7: Kreglinger Corporate Marquee Cup Day Benchmark 60 Handicap @ 9.30pm - 1420m

Rodrick's Secret (5) is racing so well and is always a winning threat at this level. His last two runs have resulted in back-to-back second placings and the only thing against him here is his poor track record, although his last performance here was a fourth last October, beaten under by under a length. He can set that record straight here. Thelma (1) is the opposite of the top pick in that she loves racing on this track, with 3 wins to her credit here. The extra furlong should be in her favour third up and another big run is expected. Punk Princess (6) is seldom far from the action and kicked on strongly at long odds last time out at Hobart when finishing runner-up there 12 days ago. Siggy Carr is back in the irons and the pair merit healthy respect. I'm Back (3) will be peaking his fitness after 3 runs back from a spell and with the blinkers coming off for the first time he is nicely poised to put his best hoof forward. Each-way value.

Race 8: Ladbrokes Sports Bar Benchmark 68 Handicap @ 10.00pm - 1220m

Warica (5) loves racing here with all of his 5 career wins coming on this track. His last start resulted in a third over 800 metres which is well short of his best trip and he will be much sharper with that hitout under his belt. He benefits from a 1.5-kilo claim and can't be ruled out of winning this. Gee Gee Queen Bee (4) also has a great record on this track and will find this easier than her last run at Devonport on their polytrack. She is much better placed on the turf and will relish the extra furlong on offer. Hard to beat this time. Muscle Up (2) is shaping up as a very exciting prospect and tried hard when finishing runner-up here when resuming 6 weeks ago. He improves quickly with racing and can go one better in this. Gee Gee Enuf Speed (3) is a consistent mare who battled on well enough to finish third at Hobart last time out and has 3 kilos less to carry this time. She will make the most of the perfect inside draw and should be right in the finish again.
