GOSFORD January 19

Course Proper; Good 4 (Rail out approx. 8 metres)

18 Heats – 5 x 1000m (3 Open; 2 Maiden); 13 x 800m (4 Open; 4 2YO; 5 Maiden)

Some top Sydney stable shunned the polytrack trials at Warwick Farm, preferring to take advantage of the provincial turf trials on a Good 4 despite some showery weather.

The Snowden stable won four heats and John Sargent, James Cummings and Waterhouse/Bott two apiece.

The heat winner stirring most interest was the Snowdens unraced 2YO filly SATIN RIBBONS. While not as visually impressive as her first trial win at Rosehill on January 4 she again showed abundant natural speed to lead at her leisure and beat older maiden rivals in the fastest of the five 1000m heats (59.82; 36.11). The only concern was her slowest last 600m sectional of the five heats but she was given an easy time over the last 200m.

The Snowdens also won an 800m open heat with the well performed MISS BOSETTI (49.81; 35.92) and 2YO heats over the trip with nice colts CONGLOMERATE (49.12; 35.42) and OBLIVION (49.19; 35.74). They would also have been pleased with the strong placings by CLOSE TO ME, CONSTRUCT and AMEN CORNER.

John Sargent's morning saw him win 1000m heats with his talented pair ELIZABEEL (61.30; 35.49) and EASY CAMPESE (60.40; 35.10) and he would have been delighted seeing his classy Group winner EMERALDS run home strongly from the rear for second in her 1000m heat won by the pacy BIG HAPPINESS (60.40; 35.74).

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Boott have a sharp maiden prospect in BOJACK, an easy all the way winner of his 1000m heat in good time (59.94; 35.72). He's now trialled three times for two wins and looks ready to go. His 2YO stablemate CONCOCTER also looks a likely early winner after making his trial debut with sharp 800m heat win (49.07; 35.57).

Godolphin picked up two 800m heat wins with the maidens BASTAKI (50.26; 36.24) and VUCETICH (51.21; 37.35) but their times paled beside the Grant Allard-trained maiden BRIGHT EYED GIRL, a professional winner of her 800m heat in 48.86 (35.26) to equal the time run by Wellington Boot winner ZEFTABROOK (48.86; 35.00) in the fastest open heat over the trip.
